Girona
Girona, a city founded by the Romans, has one of the country's richest historic quarters, with medieval walls, Romanesque and Gothic monuments, Baroque areas and one of Europe's best-preserved Jewish Quarters. Among the most emblematic areas are the Santa Maria Cathedral, Sant Feliu Church or the Arab Baths, as well as the painted facades of the houses lining the Onyar River or the towers along the "Paseo de la Muralla" (wall walkway).
The Girona "Call" (Jewish Quarter) is where the city's Jewish community lived for 600 years, from 889 until 1492. It is made up of an ensemble of buildings and a labyrinth of narrow streets that lead to Girona's Cathedral. As one of Western Europe's best-preserved quarters, it has managed to keep the charm of those historic times alive. It features a Jewish history museum, and the Nahmanides Studies Centre. Neighbouring town Besalú also has a rich Jewish legacy with the presence of Miqvé, the Jewish baths.

Protected natural spaces
Girona Province boasts a wide offering of Natural Parks. That is why we direct special attention to the "Empordà Wetlands Natural Park", a wetlands area located between the Muga and Fluvià rivers, which is home to over 300 species of birds and numerous native plant species, and the Cap de Creus Natural Park, the first natural park ever to cover marine and land territory, to the north of the Costa Brava where the land's eroded surface, articulated in cliffs, islets, points and coves come together to form a unique beauty. Other protected areas are Banyoles Lake, l'Albera, and the Gavarres and Medes Islands.
